Thousands of Nevadans Shop for Black Friday Deals

Black Friday is the one of the busiest shopping days of the year, but thanks to shopping online and on Thanksgiving, shopping today isn't as busy as it once was.

However, the Retail Association of Nevada is predicting that 600,000 Nevadans will take part in Black Friday shopping, with a combined total of $238 million. Part of that can be owed to consumer confidence.

“I know for me, things got better in my job and career, so I think I'll be spoiling the kids this year,” said Sheri Barney.

The early morning shopping rush was practically nonexistent at The Summit mall in South Reno. We asked shoppers if the deals were any better on Thanksgiving compared to Friday.

“It was $4 compared to the $20 that you would normally buy a Blu-Ray with,” said Mark Talavera.

Other shoppers said whether or not they shopped on Thursday or Friday, they'll spend more this year.

“Our children are getting older,” said Michelle Zucco from Sparks. “Older means more expensive, technology-wise.”

“I think I'll be able to spend a little more on the family,” said Talavera. “I feel a little more confident in the economy getting better.”
