A man working in a trench at a construction site near the Grand Sierra Resort could not get out, prompting a large emergency response Friday morning.

The call came in at 11:09 a.m. to 2501 Mill Street for a report of a person stuck at the bottom of a 15-foot trench in a construction area. The first unit arrived at 11:11 a.m.

The Reno Fire Department sent two engines, a heavy rescue unit, and a ladder truck to the scene.

Crews were able to get the man out of the trench. He was conscious and alert as he was brought to the surface.

A medical team is evaluating him on site, and he may be taken to a hospital if needed.

No firefighters were hurt during the response.

Officials said the man did not fall into the trench and was working in the area when the emergency call was made after he was unable to get out. The cause remains under investigation.
