After ten years, the Thunderbirds are in Reno delivering a special Hometown Hero Flight.
After a spinal cord injury, Grant Korgan is getting a chance to fly with some of the best pilots in the world.
“He sustained a life-altering spinal cord injury, he was told he would never move his leg and we should get used to a new life of not living a life that we chose,” says Shawna Korgan, Grant’s wife.
Now, almost ten years later, the guy who was told he would never walk again defied gravity pulling 9 G's with the Thunderbirds. His accident did not get in the way of his dream of becoming a pilot, instead, he channeled his struggle into hard work and just last June, he got his pilot's license. He says he will use this flight to fuel future experiences.
“I’ll think back at my pilot saying: here comes the G's, here comes the roll, we are coming into a loop, look over there, there is the planet! I’ll look back into those moments and it will take me from struggle out of that into the forward movement,” says Korgan.
