A young local artist wants to promote health and safety as he designs masks that showcase his art.
11-year-old Cooper Sandoval is well-known for his hand-drawn creation depicting the Silver State that is now hanging in the Governor's office. One of his drawings was even converted into metal artwork for Burning Man.
Sandoval started his own business, called Coop the Sloth Art; he makes custom clothing that features his designs. The money he makes go to local charities.
The young artist's most recent endeavor includes the design and distribution of masks.
"I do a design on my iPad and then we get them manufactured and then we sell them," said Sandoval. "I just want to protect people during this crazy time."
"With the masks it was particularly important just to make sure it was in the hands of people, so when they're paying, they're not paying for anything that goes back to even a charity at this time.," said Sandoval's mother, Annie Zucker. "It was important to make sure that the charity is putting masks on the people of our community."
Sandoval has distributed about 160 masks so far. His most popular designs include a drawing of Reno's Believe artwork that's displayed near Reno City Hall, and a drawing of Renown's Love artwork.
