Phone Scam (WCSO badge)

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about cryptocurrency scams. According to a Facebook post, while the scams often target older adults, these crimes can also impact people of all ages in the community.

“We are asking for your help. If you work at or manage a nursing home, assisted living facility, senior center, business, or community organization, please download this flyer and post it where residents, families, customers, and staff can see it. A few minutes of prevention can help protect someone from losing their life savings.”

You can find the flyer on their website.

The sheriff’s office has some advice if you think you may be talking to a scammer,

“Hang up immediately and contact our non-emergency line at 775-785-WCSO (9276) before sending any money. Early action can prevent financial loss.”
