Two people were arrested in Silver Springs on Tuesday, with one facing charges including child endangerment and another charged with a sex offender violation.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office carried out a welfare check at a home on Tonopah Street for a report of juveniles living in poor conditions, according to a release from the LCSO.
Deputies were allowed into the home by 44-year-old Silver Springs resident Leigha Griffiths.
They found the home in a state of disarray, with piles of dirty clothes, rotting food, dirty dishes, and animal feces discovered.
Drug paraphernalia was also allegedly found in the bathroom that contained the only working shower in the home.
During the investigation, personnel assigned to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Task Force encountered 54-year-old Steven Frey, who was living in an RV in the backyard of the home.
Frey, a Tier III registered sex offender, was found to be living in the RVÂ without updating his address as required by Nevada law.
He admitted to failing to update his sex offender registration and was arrested on one felony charge of violating registration requirements.
He was later un-arrested, the release said, due to serious medical issues
Frey was taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities say his case will be forwarded to the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
The three juveniles were removed from the home by the Nevada Department of Child and Family Services.
Griffiths was arrested and taken to the Lyon County Jail.
She is being held on three felony counts each of abuse, neglect, and endangerment of a child, and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Her bail has been set at $61,140.
A spokesperson from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office confirmed to 2 News Nevada that the picture of Griffiths included in this article is accurate.
