With just one day to go, mark your calendars for this Friday, December 12, as 2 News Nevada’s 33rd annual Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food and Fund Drive returns to help feed families across the region this holiday season.
This long-running community event, held in partnership with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, collects non-perishable foods and monetary donations to support local families facing hunger during the coldest and most challenging months of the year.
This Year, We’re Going BIG: 1 MILLION MEALS in 12 Hours
For the first time ever, a community-wide goal has been set:
1 MILLION MEALS collected across four donation locations between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
And after 33 years of generosity, organizers truly believe northern Nevada can come together and make it happen.
Tomorrow’s event caps a busy week of preparation at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Volunteers, staff, and partner agencies have been gearing up for what could be the most impactful year yet. This event has long celebrated the spirit of northern Nevada, the way the community shows up for one another and makes incredible things happen.
Donation Locations (6 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
📍 Reno – Grand Sierra Resort and Casino
New Location! The Reno collection site has moved to the parking lot where the old RV park was located, behind the former store building. For the most direct route, enter from Greg and Telegraph.
📍 Carson City – Governor’s Mansion
📍 Minden – Carson Valley Inn
📍 Fernley – Raley’s at 1400 ALT 95 / Commerce Way

• Drive up to any food drop-off location
• Pop your trunk (or let volunteers know where the food is)
• Volunteers will unload everything for you
• You’ll be on your way in minutes, feeling great!

Where Your Donations Go
Food collected in Reno will go directly to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and will support its network of 140+ partner agencies across a 23-county service area in northern Nevada and the Sierra region of eastern California.
Food collected at rural sites will stay local, supporting nearby families through partner pantries, including:

Minden/Gardnerville:
• Carson Valley Community Food Closet
Fernley:
• Living Faith Church
• St. Roberts
• Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Food Pantries
What to Donate
All non-perishable, non-expired items are welcome. Most-needed items include:
🥘🍝Canned & Shelf-Stable Meals: stews, soups, ravioli, chili (low-sodium preferred)
🥜🍥🍗Proteins: peanut butter, tuna, salmon, chicken, dried or canned beans
🥣🍚Grains: whole grain cereal, oatmeal, brown rice, whole grain pasta
🧃Fruits: canned fruit (100% juice or light syrup), dried fruit, applesauce (no sugar added), 100% juice boxes
🥫Vegetables: canned, no-salt-added/low-sodium preferred
🥛Dairy: shelf-stable milk
🥨Snacks for Kids: granola bars, popcorn, animal crackers, graham crackers
🍼 Baby Products: formula, baby food, infant cereal
Please avoid items in glass containers.
A Look Back at Last Year
The 32nd Annual Drive-By Food Drive was one of the most successful ever, collecting more than 151,000 pounds of food and nearly $319,000, including:
• Reno – 88,123 pounds & $224,855.16
• Carson City – 18,084 pounds & $5,946.00
• Minden – 38,449 pounds & $84,736.07
• Fernley – 6,540 pounds & $3,334.00
This year, the need is even greater, but so is the goal.
Year-Round Giving
Food donations can also be made year-round at the Donald W. Reynolds Regional Food Distribution Center at 550 Italy Drive in Sparks.
