The destructive Park Fire near Chico has now destroyed nearly 200 buildings and damaged 19 others.

The multi-county wildfire has now burned an area greater than the city of Los Angeles at 385,065 acres - it's now California's fifth-largest fire in state history after burning through Butte, Plumas, Shasta and Tehama counties.

It's 14% contained after starting only six days ago in Upper Bidwell Park, East of Chico.

The man suspected of starting the fire, Dean Stout II of Chico, was charged with arson, for allegedly starting the Park Fire, during his first court appearance on Monday.

The Butte County District Attorney's Office says he pushed a flaming car down an embankment, starting the massive fire.

Numerous evacuation orders and warnings remain in effect that you can see by clicking on this line.

CAL FIRE says the fire's perimeter is 260 miles which means it has burned more than three times the surface area of Lake Tahoe.

The National Weather Service previously shared a video showing the smoke impacts of the Park Fire in northern California and Nevada.

The Park Fire is burning to the northwest of Paradise, the Butte County community where in 2018 the notorious Camp Fire killed 85 people and incinerated thousands of homes, becoming California’s deadliest and most destructive wildfire.

Climate change is increasing the frequency of lightning strikes as the region endures recording-breaking heat and bone-dry conditions.
