Communities in Schools of Nevada & NV Energy Foundation Grant

The NV Energy Foundation awarded a $70,000 grant to Communities in Schools of Nevada (CIS), part of a national evidence-based stay-in-school nonprofit that serves schools throughout Nevada school districts, including Clark, Elko, Humboldt, and Washoe County.

CIS says since 2004, they have demonstrated measurable success in student outcomes, with CIS case-managed graduation-eligible students in Nevada for the 2023-2024 school year having a 97 percent high school graduation rate, a record for CIS.

CIS says over the past three years, their organization has achieved a remarkable five percent graduation rate increase, outcomes that couldn't have happened without the support of partners like the NV Energy Foundation.

They say that the NV Energy Foundation has been an invaluable partner of theirs, since 2021 generously contributing to events like Fill The Bus in Washoe and Clark County, a back-to-school supply drive, which helps ease the financial burdens of buying school supplies for students and their families who are experiencing economic hardship.

Part of the NV Energy Foundation’s award will go towards supporting CIS's annual 'Power Within,' a breakfast ceremony that recognizes CIS students, site coordinators, volunteers, and community partners in Las Vegas.  As one of the event's presenting sponsors, NV Energy will help recognize the honorees' personal growth  this school year.
