South Lake Tahoe Police Department

South Lake Tahoe police are adding a small but potentially meaningful step to what happens after someone calls for help.

Beginning next week, people who contact dispatch will receive pre-arrival text messages after reporting certain crimes or concerns. The messages are meant to share timely information that can help callers while help is on the way or as a situation unfolds.

The texts can include guidance such as steps to gather key documents after identity theft or directions on getting to a safe location following a crash. The goal is to support callers with clear information during moments that can feel confusing or stressful.

The messages will come from a (530) area code number.  That number will not accept incoming messages.

The new feature is powered through Power Engage, a community engagement platform designed to help dispatch centers send relevant information to people when it matters most.

Police say the added service is another way to better serve and support the South Lake Tahoe community.
