Today is Arbor Day, a holiday where people are encouraged to plant trees. Â And for those that agree with the spirit of the day but don't have the time or energy to actually plant a tree, a local auto shop has you covered.
CoAuto on Dickerson Road is all about what they call community conscious car care.
"It means we are community conscious in as many avenues as we can be," said Co-Owner Vinnie Lucido.
That means going green in as many ways as they can. Â Last year they partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation. Â For every oil change here, they'll plant a tree in your honor.
"So every time you get your oil serviced, there is a tree planted in one of our National Forests," Lucido said. Â "We want to better the planet; we're fighting that carbon fotoprint so we call that our 'reverse your carbon footprint' program for those very reasons."
The trees get planted all over the country. Â It's just one of several green initiatives here- like going paperless, putting a focus on recycling, and switching to a bulk oil system.
"Using small quart containers, even larger ones generates more waste," Lucido said. Â "So now we've adapted to bulk and done overhead reels so it's no containment system, no wasted plastic use."
They also give cars to local veterans, sponsor High School internships, host car clinics for women, and serve as an art gallery to give local artists some exposure.
"We don't take a commission, it's just to give artists exposure," Lucido said.
And while this shop is unique, the hope is the message will start to catch on.
"What we need ot do is empower people to understand that this is an option of all auto shops," Lucido said. Â "We want to be the revolutionary auto shop that people use us as a model to build more community-conscious auto shops."
