Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD) announced Sunday it will transition to full distance learning Monday, November 23.

In a statement to parents, the school district said the shift comes after a spike in positive coronavirus cases within its school community.

TTUSD says there are currently 27 active cases district-wide, and more than 185 students and staff are in quarantine. 12 of those active cases were reported on Friday.

Because of the volume of cases, the school district says it is difficult to keep up with the contact tracing process.

The school district also says their COVID-19 testing locations are at capacity, and the district is experiencing a shortage of substitute teachers. Food services and transportation staff are also having a shortage, as well as afternoon programs such as The Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe, according to the district.

The school district will remain in distance learning until January, when the district says it will reevaluate the case rate.Â
