An investigation is underway after a third-alarm fire broke out at the Southwest Village Apartments in south Reno early Thursday morning.Â
The fire started just before 7:45 a.m. at 3295 South Virginia Street, near Moana Lane.Â
The Reno Fire Department says a seven-year-old child was dropped out of a window for residents to catch as they were arriving, but the child was not injured.
Officials said crews rescued another child and a father in the same apartment out of the window with a ladder.
They said they were all rescued from the third floor.
Thick grayish brown smoke could be seen billowing upwards out of several second floor windows.Â
Thankfully no residents or firefighters were hurt.
More than 50 firefighters responded to the fire.Â
Fire crews say 12 apartments are affected by smoke and fire. The American Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.Â
The complex has 24 total units.Â
