The third season of professional soccer in Northern Nevada will kick off March 9 as Reno 1868 FC begins its USL Championship campaign at Greater Nevada Field.
The 2019 USL Championship Schedule was released in full Wednesday with a number of marquee matches set to take place in the Biggest Little City.
Following Reno’s first preseason contest against MLS affiliate, the San Jose Earthquakes, on Feb. 9, the club will welcome Orange County SC on March 9 in a rematch of the Western Conference Semifinal in the 2018 USL Cup Playoffs.
Orange County knocked Reno out of the playoffs with a 1-0 win. However, Reno does have the last win in the regular season series, a 3-1 win at Greater Nevada Field.
On March 16, Reno will host brand new opponent, Austin Bold FC at Greater Nevada Field. Austin will be one of three new teams in the Western Conference this year.
Reno will host the other two, New Mexico United (April 20) and El Paso Locomotive FC (Oct. 5) later in 2019.
“This year offers a fresh new challenge with three new teams in our conference,” Reno 1868 FC head coach Ian Russell said. “We’re up for it and can’t wait to get the 2019 season underway.”
When it comes to rivalries, Reno will have two shots at its biggest rivals Sacramento Republic FC and Las Vegas Lights FC.
Reno will head to Papa Murphy’s Park on May 11 for the first edition of the “Donner Pass Derby” rivalry with Sacramento of 2019.
A few weeks later, Reno will host Las Vegas for the first of two matches in the Silver State Cup. Reno claimed the inaugural cup in 2018 going 1-0-2 (five points) against the team from down South.
