The Reno Rodeo Foundation has received a donation of 175 new books from the Washoe County School District Police Department for the foundation’s Reading Rooms Program.
The books will support the reading room inside the Second Judicial District Court, where children visiting the courthouse can read books during their time there and take them home.
The Reading Room program creates child-focused spaces within the First Judicial District Court in Carson City, the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County, and the Fourth Judicial District Court in Elko County.
So far in 2026 alone, the program has distributed 1,862 books, 611 stuffed animals, and 98 additional items, including activity books, puzzles, and games.
“Something as simple as a new book can provide a sense of comfort, distraction, and encouragement during an incredibly difficult time in a child’s life,” said Cheree Boteler, executive director of the Reno Rodeo Foundation. “This generous donation from the Washoe County School District Police Department goes beyond books — it’s an investment in the emotional well-being, resilience, and future of local children.”
