The US Marshals Service says an alleged member of a terrorist organization within El Salvador was arrested in Carson City on Wednesday.
Officials said Rene Antonio "Scrappy" Hernandez-Mejia was wanted out of El Salvador for being a part of a terrorist organization. They said according to Interpol, he was a part of 18 Revolutionary Pandilla, which is a faction of an El Salvadorian gang called Shadow Park Locos, also known as SPL. Officials said it is alleged the gang is involved with crimes such as homicide, extortion and terrorization.
The US Marshals Service said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was able to arrest Hernandez-Mejia because of his illegal status in the US. Officials said he will remain in ICE custody where he will be deported to El Salvador to face his local charges.
