Washoe County Sheriff Chuck Allen is in Washington, D.C. and met with White House officials on public safety challenges and illegal immigration concerns.

Sheriff Allen joined almost 50 other Sheriffs from across the nation at an event on Capitol Hill.

The Sheriffs are expected to share their experiences and public safety challenges as elected law enforcement officers.

They will also participate in a roundtable discussion at the White House that will focus on immigration, border security and safe communities.

Sheriff Allen released this statement:

“As Sheriff of Washoe County, I want to convey to the group that the positive and professional relationships which our local and regional law enforcement agencies have with their respective cities and areas in Nevada is a key component in maintaining safe and secure communities. However, I believe it’s incredibly important to message the largest concerns I have as Sheriff are mental health, drug abuse, and lack of funding for staffing and equipment for my agency. As part of the overall discussion this week on immigration and other public safety challenges, I want to ask and encourage our law and policy makers to find funding for law enforcement agencies nationwide.
