The Washoe County School District (WCSD) Board of Trustees is inviting members of the public to attend a special meeting on Wednesday, March 9, where trustees will meet with 12 applicants who would like to fill the seat vacated by Trustee Dr. Barbara McLaury. The meeting will take place in the board chambers at 425 E. Ninth St. in Reno.
“We are very impressed with the high quality of these 12 candidates, and we appreciate their commitment to education,” said Board President Dr. Angie Taylor. “They come from all walks of life, with different professional and personal backgrounds. All of us look forward to hearing from them during this public meeting, and we’ve made every effort to keep this selection process convenient and transparent for members of the community to participate in.”
The special meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. on March 9. The time of the meeting was set for later in the day in an effort to provide a more convenient time for members of the community to attend and participate. During the meeting, each candidate will have the opportunity to make public comments to the board members.
“At this meeting, we anticipate hearing from the candidates who have expressed interest in succeeding Dr. McLaury,” President Taylor said. “We encourage members of the public to come and participate in this open process. All of us share a commitment to our children’s education, and we look forward to meeting and learning more about these exceptional candidates who want to join our team.”

“This is such a critical time for our District, and we are grateful to these members of our community who stepped forward to lend their time and talent to this effort,” said President Taylor. “We want to do an even better job of gathering input from the community, and we hope that by scheduling this meeting in the early evening, we can make it as convenient as possible for everyone to come out and take part in this important process.”
