Washoe County school leaders are looking into revising the fourth grade child sex ed subject.

The Safe and Healthy Schools Commission put together a revision of child sex ed for students in fourth grade.

They presented that to an advisory board which hears from parents before taking any action.

Overnight the SHARE Advisory Board went over emotional and physical changes that could be taught in the classroom.

They're trying to diversify the language used during sex ed.

Meanwhile, Washoe County School District officials are concerned about a high rate chronic absenteeism since the pandemic started.

They discussed how children are feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

And how some are dealing with mental health issues as a result of the pandemic.

The school district says they'll be investing into resources to curb problems with absenteeism.

And as for the revisions to sex ed - officials say they want to be sensitive towards student identity.
