It may not feel like it... but this weekend is officially the last weekend of summer! The autumnal equinox arrives Tuesday afternoon at 5:05 pm... with the first full day of fall coming our way on Wednesday. And by the middle of next week, we'll see afternoon highs climb into the upper-80s.
But first things first, the weekend will feature a building ridge of high pressure that will allow for sunshine and seasonable afternoon highs in the low-80s for western Nevada. Highs this weekend for Lake Tahoe will max out in the mid-70s. An upper-level low begins to move into the west coast Sunday evening, ushering in high clouds and likely breezy afternoon winds.
This upper-level low moves over the mountains south of Lake Tahoe for Monday and Tuesday... bringing with it a small chance for showers and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm or two. Southwesterly flow takes hold by the middle of next week, helping to drive our afternoon highs into the upper-80s and in some spots east of Reno possibly into the low-90s.
