Caltrans Prepares for Massive Winter Storm

For those of you traveling over the I-80 and Highway 50 summits, make sure you check the weather forecast before you hit the road.

That's because winter conditions are expected to hit the Sierra Mountains starting Sunday, April 5, 2015 through Wednesday, April 8, 2015.

Snow levels are expected to fall below 4000 feet with snow accumulation up to six inches which could cause wet, icy and snowy roads which can make them dangerous.

Motorists are encouraged to restrict travel over the summits or prepare for winter driving conditions by following these directions:

·         Allow enough time for your trip

·         Keep your gas tank full

·         Keep your windshield and windows clear

·         Leave enough stopping distance between cars

·         Check vehicle headlights, fluid levels, tires, brakes and other operating systems

·         Carry an emergency kit, blanket, water and a fully charged cell phone.
