The Nevada volleyball team fell to the San Jose State Spartans in four sets on Tuesday evening. The Pack are now 8-18, 1-14 in Mountain West action.
The Nevada offense was lead by sophomore Kayla Afoa who notched her 14th double-double on the year behind 17 kills and 10 digs. Redshirt freshman Hailey Maniglia had seven kills for second on the team. McKayla Wuensch and Dalyn Burns split time again in the match with both recording over 15 assists. Wuesnch notched another double-double with 20 assists and 14 digs, her sixth on the year.
On defense senior, Mo Maluotoga lead with 18 digs and Maniglia and Shiloh Peleras lead up front with four block assists each.
Nevada jumped to an 11-6 lead in the second set but San Jose State came back and tied it up, 16-16. There were five more ties in the set with the final tie being 22-22. The Spartans claimed three of the final four points giving them the 25-23 win.
In the third set, the Nevada defense held the Spartans to a .049 hitting percentage. The Spartans also had 10 attack errors in the set to help the Pack out, however neither team committed a service error in the set.
Late in the third set Maluotoga recorded her second ace in the game to put the Pack up 24-17 and an attack error from the Spartans sealed the set win, 25-17.
Nevada jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth set but quickly saw it cut to one by the Spartans. The two teams exchanged points and neither was ahead by more than two until San Jose State took a 21- 17 lead late in the set. The Spartans finished off the set with the final kill and took the match, 3-1.
The Pack will conclude its home season on Thursday, Nov. 9 with a match against Air Force. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. PT with senior recognition immediately following the action.
