Our Local Economy...What's Next?

EDAWN held an event Thursday honoring 27 companies that relocated to the greater Reno/Sparks area in 2016 along with local companies that expanded their workforce.

More than 400 local business and government leaders attended the New and Expanded Companies Welcome Reception on Thursday, December 8 at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino. Attendees included Reno City Councilmember, Oscar Delgado; Sparks City Mayor, Geno Martini; Washoe County Manager, John Slaughter; and Storey County Manager, Pat Whitten.

EDAWN says the most recent addition to northern Nevada is Mishimoto Automotive, a manufacturer and distributor of high performance cooling systems, that is opening a facility in Sparks with plans to fill 15 jobs.

"Mishimoto looked at several locations in the Western U.S. and ultimately decided that Reno-Sparks is strategically the best place for us to open our next facility," said Chris Valis, Vice President of Global Logistics Support for Mishimoto Automotive. "Proximity to our customers was a key factor. It became very apparent that this was where we needed to be to grow our business and take it to the next level."

"2016 was another impressive year, with 27 new and expanding companies adding close to 3,000 new quality jobs to the region over the next few years," said Mike Kazmierski, President and CEO of EDAWN. "We are also very excited to welcome Mishimoto Automotive to Nevada. Our Business Development team expects to make several more new company announcements in the coming weeks.  With the help of our many community partners, EDAWN will continue to work hard to attract, retain and grow the quality jobs our community needs as we build and strengthen our economic future."

EDAWN says that Dan Buhrman from CBRE, Inc. partnered with Mishimoto to assist their company in its relocation to the area.
