Despite the rain, many people kicked off Memorial Day weekend at the 7th Annual Summer Salute Car Show, Saturday.

The event was hosted by Classic Chevy of Reno at the Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.

The one-day car show featured cars of all years, makes and models, and also food, crafts, raffle, vendors, and a silent auction.

The Summer Salute was free for the public. Cars owners that wanted to display their vehicles paid a $30 entry fee.

Proceeds from event support veterans' groups in the community. A portion of the proceeds will help support The Veterans Guest House, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. The Veterans Guest House is a "home away from home" for U.S. military service veterans receiving medical treatment and for families of veterans who are receiving care at facilities in the Reno/Sparks, Nevada area.

Organizers say another portion of the proceeds go to Honor Flight Nevada.

Chairman of Summer Salute James Hutcherson said, "The money that we give to Honor Flight Nevada every $1,000 allows one veteran to go back to Washington D.C. to view the monuments that are dedicated to them and the times they served in service."
