Again, Sparks Cleans Up After Flash Flooding

The City of Sparks is cleaning up once more after flash flooding ripped through the area for the second time in less than a week. Pyramid Highway near Los Altos was hit the hardest, Sunday night, leaving both residents and shop owners cleaning up the mess.

"No," said Dave Davis. "I've never seen something quite like this."

Davis has lived on Chula Vista Drive for two years.

Monday, we caught him shoveling sidewalk. It's covered in a half foot of mud.

"It put on quite a show last night," he said. "There was a lot of raging water, and there was a tire floating down the road."

Davis says considering how much water was pouring down his street last night, he and his neighbors are lucky, with the majority of water and mud only impacting the street, the yard, and the sidewalk.

"I clean the snow off it, so I guess I should take the mud off of it too," he said.

Tenants at the Sparks Galleria were busy cleaning too. Not only did parking lots turn into ponds, some shops experienced minor flooding. Scott McDonald, owner of Pacific Tanning had a half inch of water inside when he got to work.

"There's standing water, mud, about halfway through the building," McDonald said.

The walls will need to be inspected for water damage, he says, but all things considered, he says he's lucky too.

"One of the maintenance people said the water 30 inches tall at the back of the building," he said. "We only got a half an inch so it could have been worse."

He plans to reopen his shop on Tuesday at the latest.

"I think the number one priority is to get it cleaned, and get it back the way it should be," said McDonald.Â
