Have you notice some campaign signs around Northern Nevada? The signs, though, are not political.

“It is the one election where everyone wins,” said Amanda Horn, Senior Vice President of Communications at the Nevada Museum of Art.

Horn is referring to an upcoming exhibit called, “America’s Art, Nevada’s Choice: Community Selections from the Smithsonian American Art Museum” set to open in November 2019. Three famous works of art will be on display at the Nevada Museum of Art. However, Nevadans get to choose which ones they want to see. The top three will be selected.

“We have put those eight paintings out to a vote,” said Horn.

Just like with any election, a campaign has signs.

“We actually made campaign signs for people's yards that they can take home and display proudly in their yards,” said Horn.

The signs feature the art itself and a campaign slogan:

Severin Rosen: “Win with Rosen”

George Inness: “Inness We Can”

Jacob Lawrence: “We Like Lawrence”

David Hockney: “Hang with Hockney”

Angel Rodriguez-Diaz- “Yes on Rodriguez-Diaz”

Childe Hassam- “Hassam is Awesome”

Edward Hopper- “We are a Hopper Household”

Georgia O’Keeffe- “I’m with O’Keeffe”

"Each of the paintings has its own sign dedicated to it which makes it an artwork in itself,” she said.

Homes and businesses are already throwing their support for artists by putting signs in their yards. The campaign runs July 11- August 11.

“It's important,” said Blythe Anderson, owner of Labels Consignment Boutique on West First Street. “Our community backs it in an important way and we are so happy to be a part of it."

With a busy political election season here, Anderson believes it is nice to have a campaign where everyone wins even though the top three works will come to Northern Nevada.

“It's like, 'Vote for Somebody,' like a political campaign,” said Anderson. “But it's in a much more gentle beautiful way where everyone is supporting it, loving it because who doesn't love the arts?”
