Beefy's in Midtown Reno is celebrating six years in their historic diner location. And the hamburger joint has built up a loyal following.
"Great burgers, it's a good lunch spot not too far from work," said regular customer Mark Groux.
When the pandemic hit, they switched to a takeout window and built a beer garden in the parking lot. Now, it looks like that tented outdoor seating will have to get them through the winter.
"Unfortunately, right now there's still no relief on the indoor dining," said Owner Roy Brennan. "There's 50% seating, but our place is so tiny, it's impossible. However, we're going to put in tent sidewalls, we're getting electric heaters and we're going to build it so it's going to be as comfortable as possible in the Winter. It's all we can do."
Road construction has been an ongoing issue in the area, but now that the work on Virginia Street is done, the hope is more people will return to the area, the winter modifications will keep loyal customers coming back for that burger, and the doors here can stay open, even as temperatures drop.
"We're hellbent on staying open," Brennan said. "We've come too far to not stay open, and we've put so much effort in, we're going to stay open. We've done a lot of hard work, a lot of improvements to the place, and we try to keep a great burger and great place here. Everyone's been supporting us and we're real thankful."
