The Butte Fire burning near Jackson and San Andreas, California has burned 65,212 acres and destroyed 86 homes and 51 outbuildings. As of Sunday morning, 6,400 structures are threatened and the fire is considered 20% contained.

Cal Fire reports that the fire activity remained moderate throughout Saturday night, moving North and East. Moisture levels, steep terrain, and access to the fire are making it challenging for fire fighters. They advise that evacuations will continue to expand as the fire continues to grow. Currently damage assessment teams have arrived and begun evaluations of damaged and destroyed structures.

Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency for Amador and Calaveras counties on Friday, September 11th. The order also incorporated provisions from an executive order issued in August to expedite the debris removal process and waive fees to replace important documents burned in the fire.

The Truckee Meadows Fire District has advised that heavy smoke has blown into the Truckee Meadows area from this fire. Those with respiratory issues should limit outdoor activities.
