Coffee or Tea?

Jessica Ferrato drinks her cup of tea at Hub Coffee Roasters on Riverside Drive.

"It depends on the day," said Jessica Ferrato. "Tea is more smoothing, and coffee has more substance, I guess."

A study conducted this year from YouGov found that people between the ages of 18-29 enjoy coffee just as much as tea. That's 42%. People  between 30-44 years old prefer coffee 50% to 35%. People ages 45-64 prefer coffee 62-28, and people over 65 years old prefer coffee 70-21%.

We found one local coffee shop that is adapting to this trend.  Hub Coffee Roasters expanded their Riverside Drive location to include a tea bar in addition to their regular coffee shop.

"Part of the beauty of tea is that is so warming," said Becky Tachihara, the tea bar supervisor at the cafe. "There is something comforting about a hot cup of tea."

Not only do they use the latest technology in coffee making, but tea machines too. Their tea brewer is completely controlled by an IPad.

"We do our own recipes on to this and that's what controls how long it steeps, how long it agitates, whatever we want to do," said Mark Trujillio. We can control this by right here, which is really great."

We asked some customers what they prefer:

Coffee or tea?

"Coffee," said Dave Berry. I like the taste of it. As for tea there's not enough there for me."

While others are indecisive.

"Well I do both," said Christine Walking. "I do coffee mostly here, yeah."

Whether it's coffee or tea,  either is perfect  a cold Northern Nevada day.Â
