The Sparks Police Department says construction crews found old dynamite at an assisted living center work site near David Allen Parkway near Sky Ranch Middle School and John C. Bohach Elementary School.

David Allen Parkway was closed between Wingfield Hills Road and Kiley Parkway, but the roads have since reopened.

Officials say crews were doing the ground work for the future center when they found two to three cases of old dynamite. They don't know how old it is, or how long it had been there.

A consolidated bomb squad responded to the scene. There was a controlled detonation in the area of David Allen Parkway and Kiley Ranch.

Officials said there's no danger of the dynamite going off on its own, but they're looking at how to dispose of it safely.

They said John C. Bohach Elementary was not evacuated but there are routes in place for parents to pick up their children. Sky Ranch Middle School was released after being on a code yellow lockdown.

Officials said crews will be there for two to six hours. They said for precautionary measures, homes nearby were evacuated and they'll evacuate homes to the south if there's concern.
