UPDATE:
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Patrol deputies and members of the K9 Unit arrested Dustin Dewey shortly before 8:30 a.m. on August 28, 2021, thanks to alert residents in the Red Rock area.
Multiple community members called Washoe County dispatch at 7:00 a.m. to report a suspicious person fitting Dewey’s description in the area.
Nearly a dozen Washoe County Sheriff’s Office personnel were sent to the neighborhood.
Dustin Dewey was located utilizing a drone assigned to the K9 Unit and donated by Washoe County K9 Partners. The Sheriff’s Office employs state of the art technology whenever possible to ensure the safety of law enforcement personnel and members of our community. The drone located Dewey in the open space between Red Rock Road and the Red Rock Pits, about 100 yards away from residences on Pathfinder Drive.
Dewey was in possession of a gun. He was taken into custody without incident.
At this time Dewey is charged with one felony count of eluding; one felony count of attempted vehicle burglary; one felony count of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit; and one misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of an accident. This is an active investigation, and more charges are pending.

Washoe County deputies have released a photo of the person of interest they are looking for after an early morning shooting in Cold Springs.Â
Patrol deputies were called out to the corner of Diamond Peak Drive and Lake Hills Court shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Friday for reports of a shooting.
Upon further investigation, deputies and detectives determined the shooting is tied to an attempted catalytic converter theft in the 3900 block of Snow Valley Drive.
They say the victim told detectives he confronted a man in the process of stealing a catalytic converter from a car parked in his driveway.Â
An argument ensued and moments later the shooting occurred.
One person was hit in the leg and multiple homes were hit with errant bullets.
The man then got away in a car later located by Washoe County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team members.
The person of interest is identified as Dustin Dewey, 27, of Reno. Dewey may have access to more weapons.
Anyone with information on Dewey’s whereabouts are asked to not confront him. Call the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency dispatch line at (775) 785-WCSO.
As a precaution, a code yellow lockdown was put in place at Cold Springs Middle School when classes started.Â
Students were brought inside the school as they arrived on campus.
The lockdown was announced around 7:30 a.m. and was lifted by 9 a.m.Â
