Douglas County: Man Welding Fence Sparked Long Valley Fire

East Fork Fire Protection District says a resident welding a fence started the Long Valley Fire near Langley Drive off of Highway 395. The fire is currently in mop-up stage.

The wildfire then spread to the yards of eight surrounding neighbors.

There are no reported injuries but one car and one shed did get damaged.

"I'm just glad everyone is okay, I'm glad the property damage wasn't any worse, I just want to thank my neighbor for calling 911 and the fire fighters for getting here," says Mark Wooster, resident of Whitney Way in Gardnerville.

Earlier, the county reported that preliminary evacuations were underway near Long Valley Road.

Sierra Front says the fire started just before noon on Thursday.

The Douglas County Sheriff says a few houses on Whitney Way were evacuated as a precaution.

Officials urge people to be careful and mindful about what type of outside work you plan to do on hot, dry windy days.

"The brush is extremely dry, the grass is even worse, just please be extremely careful in what you're doing outside until we get some rain," says Scott Fraser, Battalion Chief with East Fork Fire.
