The Washoe County Sheriff's SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Team assisted the Storey County Sheriff's Office during a call involving an armed barricaded suspect in the Virginia City Highlands.

It happened Wednesday, April 29. WCSO initiated contact with the suspect, and after hours of negotiations, were able to de-escalate the situation.

The suspect was wanted on charges related to violating a protection order for domestic violence.

According to Sheriff Darin Balaam, "Our SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Teams stand ready to respond when our community and regional partners need us most. When situations like this arise, our priority is a safe outcome for everyone involved. Resolving a high-risk situation like this through patience, communication, and teamwork reflects the skill, discipline, and professionalism our teams bring to every call. This was a strong display of collaboration across agencies, and I commend everyone involved in bringing this incident to a successful resolution."
