The Eureka County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) says on Friday, October 18th, just after 3 a.m. they received a 911 call reporting a crash on I-80 near Mile Marker 277 in Eureka County.
They say when emergency responders arrived, they discovered that it was a head on crash.
ECSO says a Ford Focus was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the interstate and collided with a Land Rover SUV.
They say a short time later, emergency responders found one person who was dead. They were identified as the sole occupant of the Ford Focus, 27-year-old Casio L. Withers from Battle Mountain, Nevada.
They say the driver of the Land Rover was taken to NNRH in Elko initially, and was life flighted to Reno after evaluation.
ECSO says alcohol was most likely a contributing factor in this fatal crash.
They say the names of the driver and passenger of the Land Rover will not be released.
