July 17 4:30 a.m. Update
Results are in for day one of our 17th annual Give 2 Live Blood Drive.
141 units of blood were collected on Tuesday at the Atlantis Grand Ballroom in Reno, and the blood drive continues on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.Â
Vitalant says one donation can save up to three lives. It's a fast way to make a difference, and you never know who's going need it and be impacted.
They tell us that the type O blood supply has dipped to its lowest levels in 18 months. "We strive to maintain a four-day blood supply and type O has recently dipped to less than two days. Without increased donations, patient care could be delayed and we are doing everything we can to avert that situation which is why we are talking about this emergency blood shortage."
While 46% of the population has type O blood, all types are needed.Â
