Residents in South Reno have been posting on social media, reporting their mail being stolen.
USPS did confirm they are actively investigating the issue. They also provide letters to customers whenever their mail box is vandalized to ensure the community they're looking into knows about the incidents.
“I noticed when we go to unlock it it was kind of tampered with,"Kinan, a victim to mail theft said. "Luckily we didn’t have any legal documents of anything in there. It was a COSTCO magazine and some other stuff. It wasn’t anything crazy but we noticed some stuff was missing.”
Kinan said he's looking out for mail theft leads and keeping a close eye out for potential theft.
“I’ve been more weary of it lately because I don’t trust random cars that sit out front for hours with two or three guys on their phone," he said.
Kinan shared some of the other items that went missing from his mail.
“I know it was weird but my voter ballot was missing. Just mail that had information on it, which is awkward to me because if you know their name, you know their number, you can find something.”
He mentions that being stolen from makes him feel unsafe.
“Genuinely unsettled because you never know what the goal of the thief is," he said. "Sure it can be a material gain, but also nowadays personal information is incredibly profitable. So having any information taken from mail, or packages, even license plates, if people take a picture is very unsettling.”
Kinan also suggested, until the thieves are caught, that the community look out for one another to help end the thieving streak.
