Our Someone 2 Know is a transplant from the heart of the Appalachian Mountains...and if her sweet Southern accent doesn't capture your attention, her sharp intellect might.
Andi Kilgore is a talented singer-songwriter who, in just a few days, will be auditioning for a national TV competition show.
She met up with us on a snowy day at the Reno Rodeo arena with her accompanist. For an hour, Andi sang for us (this story is best watched, not read!).
From an a capella rendition of Patsy Cline’s “Crazy”, to several self-written originals, to a classic cover song (cue Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”), singer-songwriter Andi Kilgore absolutely lights up when she performs.
"I've been singing probably since I could babble," laughs Andi.
Kilgore sang her first anthem before she was five, recorded an album at 14, and was writing songs by 15.
"I wanna share my music with everyone - and the world - and maybe connect with someone that's feeling the same way."
She's inspired by none other than Dolly Parton.
“She's got a special place in my heart because she grew up in the same region where I’m from,” beams Andi…
The foothills of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains “in the hills and hollers of Virginia and it is coal mining country,” explains Kilgore
Whilst still singing, and after graduating university, Andi worked as a law clerk in Virginia.
"We have an affiliation at that Supreme Court office with NASA Develop."
Yes, that NASA. In Virginia, Andi was the coordinator for an early-days drone project with Flirtey.
"The first ever company to do a drone delivery approved by the FAA,” Andi remembers, “and I was the organizer for that.”
That is also how she met her now fiancé, Matt Sweeny. When he moved Flirtey to Reno, it inspired Andi to write a love song about her love, whom she nicknamed “Reno.” Now she lives here, too, and says the town has welcomed her with open arms.
Twice, Andi has performed the national anthem at Reno Rodeo, and later this week she tries out for a big, Hollywood competition.
"I am registered officially to audition for The Voice."
...And a chance to wow the judges with her voice, talent - and charm.
###
That audition for “The Voice” is this weekend - 1/25/2020 in Reno.
