A 75-year-old man died near a remote mining camp/ghost town on Wednesday morning.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office HASTY team, along with deputies and detectives, were called out to the Olinghouse area on reports of a mining accident.
The man was mining with a friend when the ground beneath him caved in and he succumbed to his injuries.
HASTY volunteers worked to remove his body from the collapse while working on unstable ground.
They team responded around 8 a.m. and were done freeing him by 1 p.m.
The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Harold Fowler of Wadsworth.
His official cause of death was by accident, the cause was traumatic asphyxia and multiple blunt force injuries.
