Alpine County Sheriff's Office reports an injured skier who was caught in an avalanche this week was rescued.
They said the Alpine County Search and Rescue responded to a report of an injured skier on Tuesday, February 12 around noon.Â
They said the skier got caught in an avalanche on the north east side of Jobs Peak and a friend who was with the skier made the call.
The friend reported the injured skier was bleeding from a lower extremity compound fracture and was showing signs of hypothermia.
Once their location was determined, Search and Rescue members responded on cross country skis and snowshoes. They said the terrain was steep with deep snow and the potential for additional avalanches was significant. Air operations were not feasible at the time due to high winds.
Search and Rescue contacted the skiers around 3:13 p.m. At 6 p.m., the injured skier was hoisted by an Air National Guard Black Hawk helicopter, which transported them to a designated landing zone where Douglas County East Fork Fire and Paramedic personnel assumed patient care.
There's no update on the skier's condition at this time.
