A backcountry skier has died in an avalanche in El Dorado County in California where dangerous conditions delayed the recovery of their body.
A skier had to be rescued last week after skiing out of bounds on the back side of Mt. Rose Ski Resort.
This year, resorts are focused on Ski California’s updated, digital Mountain Safety Guide that gives visitors a common set of safety guidelines.
Officials say the conditions on the mountains in the Sierra’s today are about as good as they get for skiing and snowboarding.
Participants must be intermediate level skiers/boarders or above and provide their own lift ticket.
Heavenly says ski patrol responded to the area and is working with local search-and-rescue teams to assess the area.
With a 50% increased uphill capacity, Red Dog now offers skiers and riders a 5-minute ride to some of the most legendary terrain at the resort.
Following last weekend’s massive winter storm, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe announced its terrain is now 100 percent open for skiing and riding.
