The University of Nevada celebrated the grand opening of its Innevation Center in downtown Reno on Tuesday.
The four-story facility on Sinclair Street houses the Nevada Center for Applied Research, Nevada Industry Excellence and the Nevada Advanced Autonomous Systems Innovation Center.
The university says they hope innovative companies will continue to move to Reno and grow jobs and the local economy.
"This is where you create companies. This is where graduates and the 20 year olds and the 30 year olds and older come in and start new ideas and hire people,” says Mridul Gautam, Vice President for Research, University of Nevada.
The facility is similar to the Innevation Center in Southern Nevada donated by Switch's founder and CEO.
The data giant announced is expanding to Northern Nevada by building a large data center in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center.
