From the Washoe County School District:
More than a dozen Washoe County School District (WCSD) schools will hold intersession classes next week. Regular classes will not be in session at any WCSD schools from Oct. 6-10 while intersession classes are held.
The majority of classes will take place at high schools, where students will study writing and English and will prepare for High School Proficiency Exams (HSPE). Middle school students will study math, reading, and other core subjects. Elementary school students will attend reading camps and study literacy and math, among other subjects.
“The main goal of intersessions is to provide extra support for students who are working hard to achieve their learning goals,” said Dr. Paul LaMarca, chief school performance officer for WCSD. “This offers our teachers and staff members a great opportunity to help students who need it most and make sure they stay on a steady pathway to graduation.”
Under the balanced calendar, WCSD will hold three intersessions during the 2014-15 school year. The first takes place next week, while the second is scheduled for January 5-9, 2015. The final intersession for the 2014-15 school year is scheduled for April 6-10, 2015.
Schools in Incline Village will also hold their initial intersession next week, but will observe a different calendar as the school year progresses.
