Las Vegas Police Identify Officer Who Fatally Shot Robbery Suspect

Las Vegas police have released the name of the officer who fatally shot a robbery suspect outside the Bellagio hotel-casino.

Authorities identified 29-year-old Joaquin Escobar on Sunday as the officer in Friday's shooting that left another officer wounded.

Police were called after a suspect reported robbed the Bellagio's poker cage area.

The suspect tried to flee by carjacking someone outside.

He came into contact with officers and allegedly pointed his gun at them and fired off at least one round.

Police say Escobar returned fire, striking the suspect.

The suspect, who has not been identified, died from his injuries Saturday. The wounded officer, who had a bullet-proof vest, was treated and released.

Escobar has been placed on paid administrative leave.
