Local Great Dane Could Be World's Tallest Dog

When owner Nicholas Helms got his Great Dane puppy, Rocko, he had no idea he would grow as quickly as he did.

"As our first Dane, we were kind of thrown off with the size, yeah we know he is supposed to be big, but we kept hearing are you sure he's only 8 weeks? Are you sure? Are you sure he's only this age," said Helms.

Only two years old, Rocko weighs in at 160 pounds and is seven feet tall when on his hind legs. From toe to shoulder he is 40 inches and from tail to nose a whopping 53 inches.

One of Rocko's favorite things to do is drink from the sink and go on walks around their Sparks neighborhood, though some people get a little startled when they see him.

"A lot of people are scared to walk by him because of his size. People actually cross the street to avoid him which is kind of funny," said Helms.

Rocko's official height for the Guinness Book of World Records is 40 inches tall. The current record holder is also a Great Dane named Zeus who was 44 inches tall. Zeus died in 2014.

Helms has submitted Rocko's application to Guinness and will know the results in 2017.Â
