Hundreds of residents took part in Waste Management's residential dump day on Saturday.
The lines were entering the Reno transfer station from both ends and were reaching all the way out onto the street.
Stephen Ball of Reno says he was waiting in line for close to two hours.
"We come down here and didn't realize the lines would be this long, been waiting for almost two hours now, so it's definitely not fun," says Ball.
Waste management officials say there are ways to avoid the lines.
Reno and Sparks residential customers are allotted to choose any four days out of the year, where they can dump a standard pickup trucks worth of waste.
The quarterly event is well known for helping to keep thousands of yards of waste from being dumped illegally by allowing guests to dump their household or bulky items at free and reduced costs.
Acceptable household and bulky waste items for no charge include refrigerators, hot water heaters, stoves, dishwashers, dryers, sofas, chairs, mattresses and box springs.
Any items that do not match these guidelines will still be accepted at more than 50 % off the regular rate.
The event will continue on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the transfer stations located at 1390 E. Commercial Row in Reno and 13890 Mt. Anderson Street in Stead.
