Lyon County Commissioners Explore Possible Change to Brothel Ordinance Language

Lyon County commissioners this week requested staff research to explore what other counties are doing to see if changes need to be made to the county's Brothel Ordinance.

Brothels statewide have been closed since mid-March due to ongoing pandemic.

Commissioner Bob Hastings explained that since legal brothels are only a few businesses still closed, the county should explore possible non-sexual escort services for out of work residents.

One brothel owner, Suzette Cole, said that 500+ people remain unemployed due to the ongoing closure of four brothels.

Smith Valley Pastor Archie Walker asked the board to not change the current wording.

The board unanimously approved the item, and requested language to be changed in the Brothel Ordinance to include escort services.Â
