The United States Attorney's Office, District of Nevada reports a federal jury found a felon guilty of stealing a car at gunpoint.
They said 39-year-old Eric Romero-Lobato was found guilty of one count of carjacking, one count of use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and one count of felon in possession of a firearm.
They said Romero-Lobato had prior convictions for unlawful reentry by a deported person and for eluding a police officer.
The Attorney's Office said according to court documents, Romero-Lobato was armed with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and stole a car from a person at gunpoint. They said Reno Police officers found the stolen car within hours of the carjacking. They said Romero-Lobato lead the police on a high speed chase before wrecking the car. He was taken into custody afterward.
The Attorney's Office said Romero-Lobato is also awaiting charges related to an attempted robbery of a bar and grill in Sparks.
Romero-Lobato's sentencing is scheduled for November 19.
