A Storey County Deputy is recovering after being shot in the back while responding to a domestic violence call in Virginia City Highlands.
When deputies arrived to the scene, around 4:30 Saturday afternoon, a man fired several shots, which hit the deputy in the back. Another person at the scene was struck too.
The deputy was able to return fire, which caused the suspect, identified as 51-year-old Charles Stutts, to surrender. Stutts was then arrested. Â
The deputy is recovering from non-life threatening injuries.Â
According to Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro, the Stutts, has been booked into the Storey County Jail on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer, attempted murder, and aggravated domestic battery. Â The Nevada Department of Public Safety has taken over the investigation into the shooting.Â
The deputy is on paid, administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.Â
