44 Nevada state delegates are on their way to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
David Bobzien, Reno City Councilmember at Large, is well aware of the journey to the DNC, he was a state delegate back in 2012.
He says the individuals attending the event this year should be proud, because Nevada will likely be a topic of discussion at the convention.
“You have delegates from across the state, certainly a lot from Las Vegas and Clark County, a solid Washoe County contingent and then others from some of the rural counties, you make some great friendships, you meet a lot of new people, but you're a cohesive group," says Bobzien.
Bobzien says the DNC in years past has given delegates a chance to raise state issues at the national level.
"We have issues that are very unique here in the west, unique across the country, Nevada it’s very different here so that chance to give that perspective and get that perspective on the national stage is huge," says Bobzien.
The main purpose of the event is to select a Democratic nominee for president and vice president.
With Secretary Hillary Clinton being the presumptive choice, Bobzien believes the convention gives Clinton’s campaign a chance to regain a following from Senator Bernie Sanders’ supporters.
“It's great to see that there was such a real race that happened this time around and certainly Senator Sanders and his core supporters, you know there is an opportunity to bring them into the tent and to unify behind the nominee and I think we'll see that this week," says Bobzien.
