As we get into October and “sweater weather”, our area’s color scheme switches from green to orange…and it’s absolutely gorgeous for photos. If you're looking to fall in love with the new season, this is the place. Fall is here and it's all around us. Park Ranger John Keesee has the photos to prove it. As he told us, “All through northern Nevada along the main roads you'll see scenes such as this…some of the old barns and fields and those majestic Cottonwood trees."
It's no secret that autumn is the most photographic time of the year. From pretty leaves and pumpkin patches, to corn mazes and amazing leaf colors...there are so many moments to capture in our area, now showing in 1 room at the Western Heritage Interpretive Center at Bartley Ranch Park. There are so many scenes to shoot this time of year. Keesee says, "We still have large areas of open pastures and meadows and some of these majestic old Cottonwoods that are still blooming!"
Every fall, the park rangers dress up the walls with what can be found outside the Truckee Meadows in October. The pictures are always taken the year before…scenes of colorful leaves and crisp sunrises and sunsets that locals have captured. Yet no year looks the same. Keesee says, "Its always different, let me tell you. We never know exactly what people are going to submit." There's a striking picture taken from Washoe Valley: "It's a great scene because it captures not only the fall colors, but also the beginning of winter."
The photos are meant to inspire others to explore our beautiful area for themselves, starting now. Keesee says, "The leaves are just starting to turn now along the Truckee River. It's all getting ready to turn color, and it's going to be magnificent." And Washoe County invites you to bring friends and family to enjoy those scenes of fall for free, inside the Western Heritage Interpretive Center at Bartley Ranch Park.
